Vietnamese artist receives Japan’s “Order of the Rising Sun”

Famous Vietnamese choreographer Chu Thuy Quynh was awarded Japan’s Kyokujitsu Chujusho (The Order Of The Rising Sun) at a ceremony held in Hanoi on June 17.

On behalf of the Japanese Emperor, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Mitsuo Sakaba presented the order to Quynh, who is also the Chairwoman of the Vietnam Dancers' Association and former member of the Vietnam Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group.

The conferment is made in recognition of Quynh’s tireless efforts to build bridges of friendship and cooperation between the two nations, said Sakaba.

For her part, Quynh expressed her honour when receiving the Japanese State’s most noble order, and said she will continue to work for the good ties between the two countries, especially in the field of culture and arts.

Quynh came to Japan for the first time in 1968 and has since participated in various cultural exchange programmes between the two countries.

The artist began her career in the Central People’s Song and Dance Troupe at the age of 14. She was a famous soloist dancer during the 1960s, and frequently toured the country, making several special tours to perform for soldiers during the Vietnam War.

She has choreographed many notable works including Hoa Trang An (Trang An Flower), Vu khuc dan T’rung (T’rung Ballet), Nhung co gai Viet Nam (Vietnamese Young Ladies) and more.
