The year of 2016 was a milestone for Hà Nội’s tourism as the sector saw many positive developments thanks to more government attention and investment.

Last year, Hanoi welcomed four million international tourists last year, the highest figure ever for the city’s tourism sector, 

The past year has also seen the introduction of several of Hà Nội’s tourism products. The city kickstarted numerous projects to attract tourists including the pedestrian zone around the iconic Sword Lake, Ký Ức Hà Nội (Hanoi Memories) programme or the Áo Dài (long robe) Festival.

According to Đỗ Đình Hồng, Director of Hanoi’s Department of Tourism, the city is focusing on developing high quality tourism, especially cultural tourism that will become the foundation on which the city will build its tourism brand.

Considered the top tourism centre of the north, the city helps boost tourism in other provinces and contributed to the development of national tourism.

However, Hanoi’s tourism development has not reached its potential, experts said.
