Vietnam Airlines offers package tours are available for sale for tourists in Vietnam travel in Septemper

Passengers will be able to book tours with prices starting from VND5.96 million (US$287) at Saigontourist, Vietravel and other local travel agencies for departure to Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Vientiane, Shanghai and Yangon.

The package tours are available for sale from September 14 to 30 for departure from September 17 until the last day of the trip on October 31, which is the end of the low season for air travel.

A resort on Viet Nam's southern Phu Quoc island has removed the endangered blue fin tuna from its restaurant menus in an effort to promote environmentally friendly practices.

The tuna removal by the eco-resort Mango Bay is part of the campaign "Out of Stock, out of Excuses", supported by Wildlife at Risk (WAR), a non-profit wildlife conservation organization based in HCM City and active throughout Viet Nam's southern provinces, the resort said in a press release this week.

Blue fin tuna has received support from many environmental activists, NGOs and film stars such as Brad Pitt and Charlize Theron.

Mango Bay uses locally made furniture and natural materials such as rammed earth for its bungalows.

The provincial authorities of Lam Dong will allow local people to offer rooms to tourists in Vietnam travel during the Da Lat Flower Festival from December 30 to January 3 if there is a hotel room shortage.

During the week of the flower festival, which will be organised in Da Lat City and some districts along Highway 20, including Bao Loc and Duc Trong, the Central Highlands province is expected to receive 300,000-350,000 visitors.

According to Truong Van Thu, deputy chairman of Lam Dong People's Committee, the number of visitors to Da Lat went up from 1.1 million annually five years ago when there was no flower festival, to 3.5 million per year, while the area under flower cultivation rose from 1,000 hectares to 4,000 over the same period.

The Ho Chi Minh City - based tour operator Perfect Tours Travel has introduced a nine-day package that takes in Moscow, Novgorod and St Petersburg.

It is scheduled to depart next month. Due to an increase of leisure travellers, Saigontourist Travel Service Co has been operating Russian tours every three months since last year.

Prices of these tours have dropped from over VND100 million (US$4,700) each a few years ago to VND80 million ($3,800) for a seven-day tour.

High costs and troublesome visa applications have caused problems for tourists planning Russian tours.

Cruise ship SuperStar Virgo of Star Cruises liner, with 1,800 foreign tourists mainly from Singapore, Malaysia and Australia, dropped anchor at HCM City's Sai Gon Port on Tuesday.

Saigontourist Travel Service Co took the travellers to tourist attractions before the cruise ship departed for Malaysia in the afternoon.

According to Saigontourist, in the first nine months of the year, the company welcomed over 45,000 foreign visitors to Vietnam travel on board large cruise ships such as Costa Classica, Costa Romantica, SuperStar Virgo, Princess Daphne, Amadea and Pacific Venus.
