A photo exhibition presenting the traditional brocade weaving skills of the Mong ethnic minority opened in Paris on Sunday. The display, Theo dong soi lanh(Following the hemp), was part of a project that aimed to promote ethnic minority peoples and traditional handicraft, said Vu Thi Xuan Phuong, chairwoman of the Orange Fleurs d’Espoir Association. Starting in 2008, the project sought to help the Mong people preserve and develop their traditional culture and skills, especially the art of brocade weaving by helping them gain more income, she said. So far, people in two communes of the northern province of Ha Giang have benefited from the project, gaining access to training to enhance their skills. The project has also given them the opportunity to introduce their products to many countries including France. |
