The two artists will perform classic pieces by Johannes Brahms, César Franck, a concerto for violin and orchestra by Christopher Theofanidis and other music pieces.
The duet performance by Chang and her long time friend pianist von Oeyen is very special because the violinist previously performed in solo or with an orchestra.
Chang has collaborated with most major orchestras while performing in capitals across Asia, Europe and the Americas, including the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic and the Vienna Philharmonic.
Born in Philadelphia, Korean-original Chang began her violin studies at the age of four and studied at the Juilliard School of Music with the late Dorothy DeLay. Within a year she had already performed with several orchestras in the Philadelphia area.
Her career was recognized in 1999 when she received the Avery Fisher Prize, one of the most prestigious awards given to American instrumentalists.
Chang will be accompanied by pianist von Oeyen who established himself as one of the most captivating pianists of his generation.
He met Chang long time ago at a music festival and became friends. But the collaboration in music is recent, he said. “When we play together, I have beautiful experience. I have to try my best to meet Sarah’s prowess,” von Oeyen said.
During the remainder of the 2009-2010 season, he will also appear in recitals with Chang throughout Europe, the US and Asia.
The concert is scheduled to begin at 8pm at the Hanoi Opera House.
