The Prime Minister has approved a national cultural target programme in the 2006-2010 period with a total investment of VND4,542 billion, including VND2,496 billion from the central State budget.

The programme aims to preserve and develop typical cultural values of the nation through upgrading 70 percent of historical and revolutionary relic sites and 80 percent of architectural and natural cultural relics. In addition, it will help preserve 1,200 natural relic sites, collect the intangible heritages of 45 ethnic groups and compile scientific documents to preserve five intangible cultural heritages to be submitted to UNESCO for its recognition on the World Cultural Heritage List.
