US professors to lecture at Hanoi university

Professors from Colorado State University (CSU) will have lectures at the Foreign Trade University (FTU) in Hanoi this month under a bilateral cooperation framework.

Professor Martin Shields will teach the principles of macroeconomics to the FTU students from Dec. 14, 2009 to Jan. 8, 2010.

The CSU regional economist calls his first teaching stint in Vietnam, organised within the framework of the partnership between CSU and FTU in Hanoi, a “once in a lifetime opportunity.”

While Shields won't be doing any formal research while teaching in Hanoi, he plans to explore and interact with the culture and businesses as much as possible.

Shields said he hopes to take his observational research from his time in Vietnam and be able to use it further in his role at CSU.

Associate Professor Bob Kling, coordinator for the CSU-FTU Vietnam Economics Curriculum Project Department of Economics Colorado State University, has already given two lectures in Hanoi on microeconomics.

”It's a great teaching experience, great students. FTU is one of the most selective universities in Vietnam,” he said.
