The one-stringed zither in the Stearns Collection in the University of Michigan is a Vietnamese musical instrument, Vietnamese-American researcher Nguyen Thuyet Phong has said.

Phong announced his discovery at a seminar on the soul and sounds of the Vietnamese monochord held late last month at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
