The Trang An cave system was introduced to a group of UNESCO delegates on August 21 in preparation for its nomination into the list of the world's natural heritages.
On 21st August, a group of UNESCO delegates including 300 delegates from 100 countries visited Trang An cave system. This is the first time UNESCO delegates travel to Vietnam beautiful sightseeings.
This is an opportunity for UNESCO Vietnam to promote and court the support of UNESCO members in order to ensure Trang An is recognised as a world natural heritage site.
The Trang An cave system is appraised for two criteria when assessing it’s global value among the world's natural heritage sites. For aesthetic value, the landscape contains transcendent natural phenomenon, and for geological value, it is representative of crucial periods of the earth's history.
Considered as Ha Long Bay on land, Trang An, measuring 2,168 hectares in width is surrounded by limestone mountain ranges and 48 cross-water caves. Besides the system of caves, the landscape also boasts Hoa Lu Ancient Capital and Bai Dinh Pagoda Complex.
