Photo exhibition highlights Australian-Vietnamese relations

A photo exhibition, entitled “Australia-Vietnam: Then and Now”, has opened at Can Tho University’s Resource Centre.

With 58 photos on display, the exhibition is part of a cultural programme sponsored by the Australian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam.

The photographs, dating from 1973 to today, feature important moments in bilateral relationship such as the visit to Australia by the then Prime Minister Phan Van Khai in 2006 and the visit to Vietnam by former Prime Minister Paul Keating in 1994.

Other important Australian icons such as Uluru and Kangaroos, and the My Thuan Bridge – a high-profile symbol of Australian support in Vietnam- are also on display.

The exhibition illustrates the increasingly close ties between Australia and Vietnam and covers many areas including trade, tourism, education, law enforcement and development assistance, said Australian Consul General Mal Skelly.

The exhibition was shown in Hanoi and HCM City earlier this year.
