Nguyen Van Bon, Deputy President of the Overseas Vietnamese Union in France, said that Resolution No. 36, an important resolution of the Communist Party of Vietnam on affairs with OVs, proved that the Vietnamese Party and State always consider OVs as an indispensable part of the nation.
He said that the 11th National Party Congress needs to continue boosting anti-corruption work, expand the campaign of studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example, pay more attention to the development of intellectual force both in and outside the country, as well as encouraging students to contribute to national construction after their studies abroad.
Sharing the same view with Bon, Kieu Thi Cuc, who has been in France for over 40 years, including 20 years working with young people, expressed her hope that many more open and suitable policies would be passed at the Congress to attract a large number of the Vietnamese intellectual circle to return to the country after their training abroad.
Meanwhile, Tran Duy Chau, Deputy President of the Union of Vietnamese Students in France , said it was necessary to accelerate the implementation of policy on developing the knowledge-based economy, especially policies on using the intellectual force and developing the role of intellectual Party members in socio-economic development to create resources for scientific and technological development in the country.
Merle E. Ratner and Ngo Thanh Nhan, coordinators of the Vietnam Agent Orange Relief and Responsibility Campaign, who were active in the anti-war and solidarity movement with Vietnam in the US, shared recommendations to develop the economy in the direction of socialism.
They recommended that in the new stage of development, the country should concentrate on developing new forms of collective and state ownership and management, focus on the collective mastery of the workers and peasants in economic planning, overcome corruption and opportunism, especially in the Party, pay special attention to cadre development and monitoring, improve theoretical clarity about socialism in Vietnam, pay more attention to creative ideological work, especially with youth and revamp the teaching of Marxism in Vietnamese schools.
