The pageant aims to honour women who are beautiful and successful and have much contributed to the society.

The organizing board of the pageant held a press briefing in Hanoi on July 19 to announce the beauty contest, which will be held in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province in November.

They said that before the pageant takes place, Vietnam will hold Mrs Vietnam 2009 pageant to choose two outstanding women to join the event.

Currently, around 200 million people know about the contest in Vietnam. The final night will take place on November 22, 2009 and will be broadcast live on the Star World channel (the US) and nearly 70 international TV channels. Around 90 countries have so far registered to attend the event.

The pageant will provide a good chance for Vietnam to introduce its land and people and to attract international visitors and investors.

Dr Doan Thi Kim Hong, vice director of the organizing board, says that the final night will devote around 15-20 minutes to promoting Vietnam’s land and people with images of Quang Binh, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Can Tho, Quang Ninh and other provinces and cities.
