Exhibition showcases works by Soviet Union-educated artists

An exhibition showcasing works of art by artists educated in the former Soviet Union opened in the Hanoi-based Russian Scientific and Cultural Centre (RSCC) on November 17.

The 10-day exhibition aims to mark the 30th anniversary of the signing of a friendly and cooperative agreement between Vietnam and the former Soviet Union and the RSCC’s 5th anniversary.

The event has gathered works by 23 artists and features 47 paintings and five sculptures. The pieces of art depict the sentiments and feelings inspired in the artists by the former Soviet Union and its people as well as the emotions evoked by their fatherland of Vietnam.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Bang Lam, Vice-President of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, said that during war-time, the Soviet Union helped to train more than 30 Vietnamese artists and painters. Many of them have become well-known artists, such as the painter Tran Luu Hau and the sculptor Le Cong Thanh.

The director of the RSCC’s Cultural Department, Vesnin Valery said that further exhibitions on art and culture would be held in the RSCC in the future, in order to further develop the friendship between the two countries.
