Belgian Jazz pianist launches annual European music fest

Famous Jazz pianist Charles Loos will open the annual European Music Festival with a performance at the Youth Theatre in Hanoi on November 26.

Born in 1951 in Brussels, Loos went abroad to study Jazz composition and orchestration at the Berklee School of Music in Boston in the US in 1972.

Inspired by folklore and early and contemporary Jazz, Loo’s compositions are unique in style and impossible to mimic. He is popular in several countries around the world.

Loos has won several prizes throughout his musical career, including the Sax Prize in 1988, the Jazz Ralye’s prize in 1990 and the Django d’or in 1997.

In his debut in Vietnam, the Belgium artists will perform with Vietnamese Jazz saxophonist Quyen Thien Dac and vocalist Tran Mai Hanh.

During his time in Hanoi, he will give lecture at the Vietnam National Academy of Music on November 27.
