With an exclusive idea of investment in wild pristine forests and seas without electricity and water; with a strategy of neither breaking nor building houses in series but focusing on cleaning up the sea, planting forests trees to harmonize forests with seas, the owner of Bai Dai Mai Quyen in Van Don, Quang Ninh, has gained initial success.

After 10 years of hard-work, Mr Ta Duc Quyet, Chairman of Administrative Council and CEO of Mai Quyen company has turned a wide coastal area fulfilled with weeds into a well known tourism region in Quang Ninh, surprising not only traveling tourists but also the native people.

In 1998, during a trip through this land, Mr Quyet was attracted by the mountain forests and sea’s beauty of Ha Long commune, Van Don district and right away he thought of an eco-tourism project. He began to ask the local government for the right to invest in a tourism project here.

Mr Quyet compares himself as a bait because he spends his own money to invest in the wide and remote area, if success, all the enterprise and local people gain benefit.

For the past 10 years, he only uses human work to do things manually like lawn mowing, cleaning up garbage, pouring white sand into the sea and increasing forest trees plantation. Surprisingly, the past desolate coastal area without human trace turns into a spacious white sand stretching over one kilometer on coastal Bai Tu Long Bay with green and clear water.

To be different from other tourism investors who always want to massively cut down trees and construct high grand buildings, Mai Quyen enterprise still remains the wildness and just affects the environment friendlily without breaking the landscape.

The investment of Mai Quyen into Van Don provides three big benefits to the local: preventing the coastal sand mining, clearing and burning forests which are taking place frequently and the most important is creating new orientation for the Van Don’s tourism.

Mr Quyet said at first, it was expected to serve only mining workers in nearby Cam Pha but the result he got was very surprised. Since Bai Dai was founded, the resting rooms are booked all in summer. Especially from May to August, the tourists have to order the rooms up to ten days before. Mai Quyen enterprise has so far completed 120 rooms, a system of restaurants and hotels including a building named Thien Duong (Paradise) at four star standard with 30 rooms under the construction.

Bai Dai Mai Quyen tourism region today available with electricity, water and advantageous transportation become one of the favorable tourism highlight in Quang Ninh. Only 40 kilometers from Ha Long Bay, with pure air like Sa Pa-Lao Cai, Bai Dai attracts the tourists by some tourism types such as forests ecology, marine tourism and spiritual tourism with Tran Khanh Du temple and Cai Bau pagoda.

In the near future, Mr Quyet will build a small resort at this place to highlight Bai Tu Long Bay and attract more tourists.
