Son La Prison is one of the famous and special attractions in Son La province in particular and in Vietnam in general. Coming here, tourists will get to know more about the heroic war period of Vietnam as well as feel the outstanding patriotism of patriots in the war time.

The prison was built by French colonialists in 1908 with the area of 500 square meters. In 1940, the prison was expanded to 1,700 square meters. It was the important military base during the war time where thousands of Vietnamese patriots turned the prison into a “revolutionary school” to help sharpen the will of freedom fighters to liberate the nation.

Before withdrawing from Son La in 1952, French Colonial bombed in the prison to erase their crime traces. In 1965, American Empire bombed in the North, so that Son La Prison was almost completely destroyed. However, the foundation of the prison is still remained.
