Quang Ninh pilots self-drive tours to Chinese city

The Northern province of Quang Ninh launched self-drive tours on November 9 from the city of Mong Cai to China’s bordering Dongxing.

This model aims to promote cross-border tourism between in Vietnam and China, as well as the common development of the two locales in particular, Vu Van Kinh, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee of Mong Cai, said.

Forty tourist cars from Vietnam and China carried out entry and exit procedures at the Mong Cai international border gate on the opening day. Cars with fewer than nine seats by the Vietnam and Chinese individuals and enterprises are allowed to enter and stay in the respective city for no more than three days. The number of cars is not to exceed 100 per day.

Chinese visitors can travel only in Mong Cai and may not cross the Control Complex Station of Km15- Dan Tien Pier and vehicles are not permitted to travel on National Highway 18C (the border belt road) or in military areas. The Chinese city will set its own regulations.

The Hong Gai Tourism and Services JSC has been entrusted to operate the service and help drivers with exit procedures. The Quang Ninh People's Committee has asked the Development and Transport to coordinate with relevant departments and local administrations to manage Vietnamese cars.

The project will be in a pilot phase from now to January 11, 2017.
