A survey by the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has found that over 81 percent of 1,420 surveyed international tourists who visited Hanoi want to return to Vietnam’s capital city.

Ninety-three percent of the tourists said Hanoi is worth visiting, Vietnam News Agency quoted the department’s findings as saying.

Most of the surveyed people gave the city positive reviews, namely for its cultural values, historic sites and safety.

But, they also found environmental hygiene, traffic infrastructure, and the attitude of some taxi drivers and shopkeepers troublesome, the survey revealed.

Accordingly, the department has urged local agencies to apply various measures to boost Hanoi’s image, like tackling traffic and environmental problems and designating specific areas for tourists.

Educational programs for and the improved control over taxi drivers and street vendors are also needed, according to the department.

In the meantime, the department will tighten its control over local travel companies and hotels in response to tourists’ complaints about the quality of services and prices, the news report said.

The department has also proposed to the city’s authorities that they increase nightlife activities to meet the demand of tourists.

Hanoi aims to attract 2.25 million foreign tourists this year from 2.1 million last year, according to the news agency.
