Going out of bamboo forest, tourists in Vietnam travel will have to go through Ai Spring to go to the Ancient Muong Village.
Most of Ai Village’s houses are in the model of House on stilts (Nhà Sàn) - traditional houses of Muong ethnic minority.
Most of these houses were rebuilt from 1990s due to rotten wooden floors. Previously, wooden poles of these houses were buried down to the land; therefore, they were easy to rotten. Nowadays, wooden poles have long age because they are put in big rocks, less rotten than before.
Fields of Muong people in the village
Contrast to the noise of Lo Street (Phố Lồ) in the 6th National road only 0.5 km nearby, the life of people in Ai village has been very quiet and peaceful from generations to now.
Living in the village for more than a century, the elder 104-year-old Bui Thi At seating by the side of the window characterized for Muong house watchs the mountains and forests days after days.
People in Ai village help each other to cut hair.
The project of rehabilitation and conservation for ancient Muong Village invested by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hoa Binh province has been implemented for 2 years. However, some small parts of the project have been built such as building stables of cows, buffalos and toilets for each household, while the major stages as renovation of houses or inside and outside landscape of village are almost not be done.
Some houses were rebuilt by the villagers themselves therefore some traditional features of the houses cannot be remained.
However, like many houses in the Ai Village, Mr Bui Van Thanh’s house is too old that he had to use paper to cover and wait to rebuild it.
Nobody can say the exact time when the project of rehabilitation and conservation for ancient Muong Village is finished; however, the life of villagers in Ai Village is still peaceful as they were.
