Cultural Week Promotes Beauty of Mu Cang Chai Terraced Field

Thousands of local and foreign visitors are flocking to the northern province of Yen Bai to join the Mu Cang Chai Terraced Field Culture, Sports and Tourism Week.

Last week, in Mu Cang Chai, the Cultural Week to promote beauty of Mu Cang Chai terraced field 2013 attracted much tourists to take part in. The week of terraced field takes place from 23-29 Setember including: quick rice havesting contest, the biggest festival of dancing in Vietnam with the participation of 2013 actors, craftman of Thai people.

With the theme “Mu Cang Chai – Connnecting Tourist Attractions”, the event features various activities, including a local market named “Colour of Northwest Region”, a contest of ploughing and harvesting rice, a photo exhibition depicting the region’s natural beauty.

Visitors also have the chance to enjoy drum and panpipe performances, buffalo fighting and tours to the traditional craft and embroidery villages of the H’mong ethnic group.

Annually held since 2007, when the terraced field in Mu Cang Chai was recognised as a National Scenic Site, the event aims to introduce to tourists the beauty of the land and people, together with the traditional cultural values of H’mong ethnic group.
