Project to protect historic lacquer ware completed

The Vietnam History Museum on July 22 announced the completion of a project to restore 70 devotional objects dating from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Among the lacquered objects were altars, ancestral tables, ritual trays, shrines, an imperial carriage and carved chests.

“After being treated and repaired, many items were displayed at the APEC Images and Vietnamese Cultural Hermitages Exhibitions. “Those exhibited items were highly appreciated,” said Dinh Van Thin, deputy director of the Vietnam History Museum and head of the restoration project.

“The restored objects will be displayed in the museum because of their significant artistic and historical value,” added Thin.

The seven-month project received US$21,000 from the US Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation Project.

US Ambassador to Vietnam Michael W Marine said the US-government was proud to help Vietnam protect its priceless treasures.
