Hanoi hosts Australian art show

A wood engraving painting exhibition by Aboriginal Australian artists opened in Hanoi on June 28.

The “Gelam Nguzu Kazi-Dugong My Son” exhibition, which runs until July 7 at the Viet Culture Centre, 42 Yet Kieu St., is displaying 33 paintings by David Bosun, Billy Missi, Victor Motlop and Dennis Nona from Mua island in the western Torres Strait off the Northern Australian coast.

The event is part of the Aborigines and Torrest Strait Islander People Programme, launched by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The traditional wood engraving art enables the artists to relive historical tales and depict their social situations and living environment.

The exhibition is being held to mark the 50th anniversary of the NAIDOC Celebrations, held around Australia in the first full week of July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
