A tour group and mid-range business traveller favourite, the New World Hotel's location is convenient for both Saigon's famous Ben Thanh market and the backpacker area around Pham Ngu Lao St -- it's also but a 10-minute stroll from the heart of Central Saigon. The hotel is massive -- some 552 rooms -- all of which come with in-room safe, mini-bar, tea and coffee, IDD telephones and broadband access (for an extra fee). That said, the rooms lack anything in the flair and polish department, and while they're comfortable and well maintained, they seem a tad overpriced compared to some of the other options in town. Also, the rooms on the lower floors catch a significant degree of traffic noise so try for a room on a higher floor if you're a light sleeper. Facilities include a host of restaurants, a gym and a large pool -- staff told us it is Saigon's largest, but The Legend's pool looked bigger to us. Definitely search for an online (discounted) rate.
